Giving Tuesday: The Sit Down Campaign

Tuesday, December 3rd, is the SEVENTH annual Giving Tuesday!

We hope you’ll support the SIT DOWN CAMPAIGN: A Fundraiser for Furnishings for the Bryant Neighborhood Center.

What is the Sit Down Campaign?

We want to maximize the hospitality potential of the Center by filling it with appropriate furnishings. Couches, tables, area rugs, chairs and more will go far to cultivate a sense of welcome to the neighborhood. In short - we need a place for folks to sit down!

We envision the Bryant Neighborhood Center to be a community gathering place. Groups of all sizes and ages and purposes will use our space to come together for different kinds of meetings, celebrations, or shared meals. The Sit Down Campaign is one more step towards making that happen.

What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a “global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.”

Since 2012, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has become an opportunity for people around the world to support causes they care about. In 2018, nonprofits raised $3.6M on Giving Tuesday.

Why not use the old furnishings?

Some of the old furniture in the lower level of Trinity Presbyterian Church is currently in storage, waiting to be used again! When we moved out of the building for construction, we only stored the furniture still in good condition. Damaged tables, wobbly bookshelves, and couches stuck in a reclining position were let go in the best ways we could find.

Additionally, as the space has been redesigned, we have new purposes for areas that didn’t need furniture before.

Who will use these furnishings?

In short - our community! The Bryant Neighborhood in the historically underserved Hilltop of Tacoma.

Even before we started construction, Trinity Presbyterian Church is used four times more often for community events than for church-related functions. With this revitalized space in our lower level, we will curate new partnerships and programs that invite our neighbors into the building even more often.

Are you buying all new furnishings?

Nope! Our Design Team is working to maximize dollars by purchasing high quality used furniture to meet most of our needs. Additionally, we are grateful to the people who have already donated previously owned furniture in good condition. Some items, like updated light fixtures, will likely need to be purchased new.

What furnishings do you need?

Our preliminary list includes:

  • Storage shelves

  • Cabinets

  • Bookshelves

  • Sofas

  • Arm chairs

  • Area rug

  • Foosball Table

  • 5’ Folding Round Tables

  • Stackable Chairs

  • Folding Chairs

  • Folding Chair Storage

  • Light Fixtures

Can I donate my [furniture item]?

Maybe! Our team is carefully vetting furniture donations to ensure we accept items that will fit the needs of oru space. If you have a piece you think we could use, let us know! Send a photo and we’ll run it past our team. If we can’t take it, you can always reach out to our friends at the Northwest Furniture Bank. They might be interested!

Can i give my time?

There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer!

Right now, we need people with trucks to help pick up furniture. Soon, we’ll also be looking for help with some finishing work to be completed before the Center opens.

Click here to let us know you’re interested, and we’ll be in touch!
